ŷɫƬ Faculty, Alums, and Students Nominated for Journalism Award

“The Latinx Word,” a collaborative magazine project produced by Associate Professor Elio Leturia and his students, is one of the works nominated for a Society of Professional Journalists, Chicago Headline Club Lisagor Award.

Columbia faculty, alums, and students are among the nominees for the . The awards honor the best journalism produced in Illinois and northwest Indiana from across the media spectrum.  

One of the works nominated is  a collaborative magazine project that Associate Professor Elio Leturia produced with students from two of his classes, Visual Communication, and People, Power & Narrative: Latino Voices. The project has been nominated for the “Best Reporting on Race and Diversity Award” in the Best Coverage by Subject: Small Print and Online category. In addition to Leturia, the society recognized Associate Professor Curtis Lawrence, Journalism student Olivia Covey ‘23, and Interim Chair Erin McCarthy for their contributions to the project. 

Journalism Adjunct Instructor Martha Irvine was nominated for the “Best Community Reporting Award” in the Best Coverage by Subject: Video category. Other Columbia nominees include Journalism Alums Mina Bloom ‘11, Ariel Parrella-Aureli ‘17, and Joanna Hernández ‘14.  

Winners will be announced at a dinner ceremony on Friday, May 12, at the Union League Club of Chicago.
