Schools making “Variety’s” prestigious list are recognized for their adaptability in a rapidly changing industry and ability to navigate recent pressures facing higher education.

ŷɫƬ has been named one of the leading film schools in “Variety’s” annual Education Impact Report, which highlights the  offering degrees in film. 

The report underscores how top film schools are adapting to a rapidly evolving industry while maintaining a strong foundation in storytelling. As higher education navigates mounting pressures, such as the rise of AI, institutions featured on “Variety’s” list adjust to meet the moment.  

“Inclusion on “Variety’s” list affirms Columbia’s commitment to preparing the next generation of storytellers and creative leaders,” says Eric Scholl, interim co-director of Columbia’s School of Film and Television.  

“Variety” recognized ŷɫƬ for its faculty of working professionals and expansive soundstage facilities, which includes the 35,500 square-foot Media Production Center that houses Columbia’s Volume wall where students produce films using virtual production technology. The report also highlighted Columbia’s Semester in LA program, which connects students to industry professionals through its lecture series at Fox Studios, and Columbia’s new master’s degree in Screenwriting and Development, which is accepting applications for fall 2026.  

Columbia alum, actress Chase Infiniti '22, got a special nod from “Variety,” with the publication noting that Infinity “took awards season by storm” with her breakout performance in “One Battle After Another.” 

“We are proud to offer students the technical resources they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving entertainment landscape while encouraging them to tell their own stories,” says Wenhwa Tsao, interim co-director of the School of Film and Television. “Being recognized on this list exemplifies the strength of our programs, the dedication of our faculty, and the bold, original voices emerging from Columbia.”
