'The Hollywood Reporter' Ranks ŷɫƬ 14th Best Film School in U.S.

Columbia named to “The Hollywood Reporter’s” best U.S. film school list for the 15th consecutive year, with the school’s Emmy-nominated talent and new virtual production programming earning recognition.

the 14th best film school in the U.S. in its 2026 rankings. THR is one of the most trusted resources in entertainment news, reviews, and analysis.  
 In this year’s ranking, “THR” highlights Columbia’s strength in its diverse student population, noting that the school’s undergraduate class is over 60 percent female and over 50 percent BIPOC. In addition, THR highlights Columbia’s new studio space at Sunset Gower Studios in Hollywood for students attending the Semester in Los Angeles program.

This recognition reflects the strength of our creative community and our ongoing commitment to fostering diverse learners who are prepared to be industry-ready storytellers and creatives,” says Wen-Hwa Ts’ao, dean of the School of Film and Television.  

Consistently ranked among the best by “Variety” and “MovieMaker” in addition to “The Hollywood Reporter,” Columbia offers hands-on learning in producing, screenwriting, directing, production design, cinematography, editing, and sound on location and on both physical and virtual production sets. It also offers programs in Animation and Computer Graphics and Game and Interactive Media Design.  

The prestigious top film school ranking comes after three Columbia alums received four Emmy nominations for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, airing in September. This honor reflects Columbia’s dedication to its students and keeping pace with the ever-changing film and television industry.
